The Beverly Hills Hotel celebrates

110th anniversary

The Beverly Hills Hotel is devoting all of 2022 to the 110th anniversary celebration of its opening, with a range of special activities and offerings for guests and locals.

These began by asking guests to pen ‘love letters’ to the hotel on specially designed letterhead, which went on display in the hotel in May and will later be archived as part of the property’s rich Hollywood history.

Other celebrations include the $1,912 McCarthy Salad, named in honour of guest and polo player Neil McCarthy, who in the 1940s ordered a very specific list of ingredients – including lobster and caviar – for his salad, hundreds of which are now sold each week at The Beverly Hills Hotel. The celebration version, paired with a bottle of Dom Pérignon, costs $1,912 and is served in a commemorative bowl made by Bernardaud, master of French porcelain since 1863, which guests will then get to take home with them.

Special cocktails will be available in the Polo Lounge to celebrate the anniversary and guests will be able to book a manicure and nail design based on the hotel’s famous aesthetic.

Other events include a film season at the pool showing movies shot on location at the hotel, and an exclusive exhibition of images of one of the hotel’s most famous regular guests, Elizabeth Taylor, by photographer Bert Stern.

The hotel opened in 1912 prior to the founding of Beverly Hills itself, and the city grew up around the famous Pink Palace. To this day, the iconic property remains at the heart of the star-studded Hollywood community.

“Hollywood was built around our hotel and so was the city of Beverly Hills,” says John Scanlon, who joined as general manager only recently from 45 Park Lane. “Our guests enjoy knowing that when they walk up our red carpet, they are walking in the same steps of virtually every movie star that has ever lived. This is something that simply cannot be replicated.”

It’s a busy time at Hotel Principe di Savoia, with a range of recent innovations for both employees and guest. As part of its commitment to celebrate diversity, the hotel recently hosted an event for all employees on immigration with diversity and inclusion consultant Valentina Dolciotti. The event was followed by a photography exhibition on the hotel’s ‘Rainbow Wall’ covering more than 100 years of immigration in Italy.

“Italy has always been the at the forefront of internal and external migratory flows. Over the centuries we have left our country, we have moved, we have returned and we have welcomed,” says Paola Iemmallo, area director of people and culture. “Knowing our past, as migrants, offers us the opportunity to look at the world with fresh eyes and to understand what is going on today on a global level: Italy was a country of emigration and is now a country of immigration.”

Another special moment for colleagues occurred on International Women’s Day in March, when all employees were treated to a make-up class by two therapists from the hotel’s Club 10 Fitness & Beauty Center therapists.

Andy Warhol showcases New York nightlife and Hollywood glamour at Hotel Bel-Air

Guests at Hotel Bel-Air and locals alike recently had the chance to discover dozens of never-before-seen Andy Warhol images from the James R Hedges IV Collection – the largest collection of its sort in private hands in the world. A prolific collector since Warhol’s death in 1987, Hedges has acquired an impressive selection of Warhol’s photos, including hundreds of Polaroids, photo-booth strips, screen tests, silver gelatin prints and more.

All Andy Warhol photos on display at Hotel Bel-Air were taken by the artist in the last decade of his life and included celebrity portraits, Hollywood stars, Studio 54 moments and still-life images. The show, which was open to the public in the lobby of the hotel, provided a unique view into the artist’s mind and day-to-day life, as well as a heavy dose of glamour.
